iPOD iMPROV
WHAT: A public act involving many participants requiring nothing other than your body. All that we ask a participant to do use their body (and their iPOD) to dance!
WHERE: Watterson elevator, with plenty of younger undergrad kids smooshed in with the Blono Interventionists.
when: Thursday, April 9th, 2009 from 11:50 am to 12:00 pm.
• We will meet right before the event at Milner beforehand at 11:45am (any quick questions, getting people organized, etc). Also, let me know if someone will be in class and a little bit late/right at 11:50.
HOW:
• CLOTHING: Whatever you would like, as long as you have your iPOD and earbuds-- dress appropriately for the weather!! ☺
• BREAKDOWN: After our brief meeting outside Milner on Thursday, we will disperse and walk throughout the quad until 11:55 am. Please make sure that at 11:55 you are (extremely) close to where the gazebo is on the quad. Right at 11:56 am, we will all run into the gazebo structure and start dancing like crazy for a minute straight. Then, after that minute is up, continue your normal walking-in-the-quad routine as you would normally do, as you continue on to class, the Alamo, your apartment, etc.
• AFTERWARDS: I would like everyone to meet up at the end of the event, at 12:00 pm (back outside of Milner, by the benches), so that we all can speak about you thought it went, reactions you received from others not participating that were walking past, interesting stories of your personal experiences, if you enjoyed this event, etc.
WHY:
• ACADEMIC: The reason I created the Blono Improv Interventionists was simply to find intriguing ways to activate public spaces and allow participants to actively and openly participate in the projects as they arise. The reason for this project in particular was to gauge how the public may respond to something that may be inappropriate to people of our age, to do something that seems silly and spontaneous, and for everyone participating to have fun.
• PERSONAL: I feel that this would be a fun event to participate in, that’s pretty much the sole reason behind this. The event was suggested to me after a participant in the last event, Target Tag, saw a youtube video similar to this.
PRECAUTION: Please be aware of your surroundings; don’t smack someone in the face while doing any intense version of the sprinkler. Please do not violate others in any way (unless they consent to it ahead of time of something). I don’t want a girl getting felt up by some random guy, that’s just not nice and would not leave a very good first impression with the girl. So please, have a blast interacting in this project but stay away from anything potentially illegal!
* a special thanks to Improv Everywhere and Tom Alvarez for the inspirations.

HOW IT WENT: Great!! Everyone happily participated, we even had someone show up afterwards ready to dance and sad that they missed the event!
After we finished filming that day, a guy riding in the elevator with me said to me, "That was awesome! Are you doing that for a class? What is it all about exactly?" And I told him and he seemed very interested and said he would check out the group! SO... hopefully word of mouth with also help with the spread of Blono Improv Interventionists!
